Maldon Hospital services the township and outlying areas of
Maldon
with a population of approximately 1600 permanent residents. The
township is located in Central Victoria, 125 kilometres from
Melbourne, 17 kilometres northwest of Castlemaine, and 38 kilometres
southwest of Bendigo. Known as "Australia's First Notable Town", Maldon is
a National Trust listed town, and boasts an
extensive history of gold mining. The township
is now a popular tourist destination, boosting
the town's population each weekend and at various times during the year. The Hospital is located in a picturesque setting part way up Mount
Tarrangower, as it was the custom in past years to locate hospitals on high
points as these locations were always healthier. This location gives residents
sitting in the front garden of the Hospital a panoramic view of the surrounding
country. Go to the page Maldon
Hospital for a description of the Hospital and its facilities. |
